Dutch-language music performance with text-scraping stories
FLATS. is a musical performance project by Marte Teuben – a vocalist and performance artist based in Utrecht. In this high-energy performance accompanied by a poetry booklet, Marte blends Dutch art-pop with a performance that is as witty as it is insightful, exploring the friction between stories: within ourselves, between people, and in the world around us. The tension between what we feel, what we understand, and what happens when those two don’t align is musically translated into a rhythmic, sometimes faltering engine, paired with peculiar lyrics through which she shares her voice on the matter.
Inspired by the music of Fiona Apple, Talking Heads, and Doe Maar, she fuses quirky lyrics with delightfully unhinged piano parts into a grooving whole. Together with four musicians and a performer, Marte presents an energetic musical experience that transforms everyday absurdities into playful music with a sharp edge.
