Utrecht’s indie-folk sensation returns with a fresh sound and catchy melodies

As a young child, Judy Blank spent every evening watching classic American films with her father. Those stories gave her all the inspiration she needed to pursue a career in the U.S. Over the past few years, she has been mainly active across the Atlantic, but now, for the first time in a long while, she’s back in the Netherlands. Following the huge success of her coming-of-age album Morning Sun (2018)—a blend of bold indie folk, rootsy pop, and a touch of Delta blues—she performed at major festivals like Lowlands and North Sea Jazz.

But now, she’s taking a new direction. For nearly a year, she has been working with producer Roy van Rosendaal (Figgie) in a dark studio on the edge of a forest. There, she has crafted a fresh, distinctive sound filled with playful lyrics, colorful synths, and jangly guitars. Expect catchy melodies and a stylishly dressed band with a soft spot for gritty ’60s rock. With her new album, she’ll be playing three to four shows in the Netherlands—including one at EKKO—and this is one you won’t want to miss.

Support: Sam Vano
Indiefolk with tear-jerking intimacy; that’s how Sam Vano’s music can best be described. The melancholy that surfaced in his demos over the past few years has grown into a captivating collection of songs. His debut album, Selfhelpingmehelpmyself, will be released on April 18th and is sure to be the perfect addition to this show.
