Eric Davidson (host/storyteller/dj)
The Deaf (live)
Johnny Throttle (live)
ERIC DAVIDSON — rock writer and former lead singer of Columbus, Ohio, punk band, New Bomb Turks — will be hitting the stage to tell tales about his new book, We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001, the first history of 1990s garage punk. But leave your pipe and corduroy jacket at home, and bring a thirsty liver and your stomping boots, because this ain’t your usual haughty Q&A. Eric will read a bit from the book, talk shit, and take questions and insults from the crowd, for about 20 minutes. Then a special guest band will blast through a wild set. British gonzo-garagers, Johnny Throttle (Crypt Records), are on board for a few shows — and other special surprise guests will be added soon! Then Eric will keep the party going, DJing the most killer garage punk slop from the last 50 fuckin’ years until your eyes are red and they kick your ass out of the bar. PLUS, Eric will be bringing along a few DVDs of extremely rare clips from bands in We Never Learn and other old, crazed, sleazy B-movie madness to blind your eyes while you’re dancing the eve away!
Eric Davidson first got paid 10 dollars for a Lou Reed record review in 1989. Then made nearly 100 times that as singer for longtime Columbus, OH punk band, New Bomb Turks, releasing 10+ albums of material on labels from Crypt to Epitaph, and touring all over the globe. He kept freelance writing gigs going in between for Alternative Press, Village Voice, Seattle Stranger, Cleveland Scene, and many others. Then after the band stopped in 2003, he spent three years as Associate Editor at CMJ magazine in NYC, and is currently a staff writer for www.agitreader.com. And last June he released his first book, We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut, 1988-2001 — the first history of 1990s garage punk — on Backbeat Books. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, but his heart is flopping around the floor of a dive somewhere back in his hometown of Cleveland…
