FREE HERI HERI MEALS CELEBRATING THE ELIMINATION OF TRANSATLANTIC SLAVERY
On Saturday 1 July we commemorate and celebrate the abolition of transatlantic slavery in the Netherlands with Keti Koti. For this day, KIP Republic organizes Free Heri Heri For All for the fourth time; throughout the whole country, the Surinamese dish Heri Heri is distributed for free to unite people and to reflect on the slavery past in an accessible and inclusive way. Heri Heri is a dish that the enslaved people ate during that period and includes boiled potato, cassava, banana, cod and an egg.
This year EKKO is one of the locations in Utrecht that offers a place to eat the dish together and thus enter into a dialogue about the meaning of this important day. The dish is prepared in EKKO and can be picked up here for free between 12:00 and 16:00 or eaten in our café.
