BALTHAZAR BASSIST PRESENTS MOST ROMANTIC RECORD OF THIS CENTURY
Simon Casier, also known as Zimmerman, is a romantic, but not of the hopeless kind. The Flemish musician, famous as the bassist of Balthazar, has, in fact, emerged as a master of unabashed odes to everything beautiful in the world over the past few years. Even in the sweeping ‘Wish You Were Here,’ a composition lasting 45 minutes that served as a tribute to Casier’s late brother, there emanates a warmth that has become characteristic of his work. On his new album ‘Love Songs,'(expected February 14) Casier once again sings praises, this time for his partner and fellow musician, Noémie Wolfs. In the realm between cheesy sentiment and genuine beauty, Zimmerman presents meticulously crafted pop songs with substance and, above all, soul. Once again, it becomes evident: while Maarten Devoldere (Warhaus) and Jinte Deprez (J. Bernardt) may be the frontmen of Balthazar, Simon Casier is the foundation.
