A NEW GENERATION OF UTRECHT PUNKS MAKES EKKO SHAKE TO ITS FOUNDATIONS
Utreg Punx unite UUU! On January 27th, EKKO will raise the new generation of punks from the Domstad on the proverbial shield. They may not be able to get a mortgage or escape the consequences of a global climate crisis, but shouting and tearing it up in the old-fashioned way are skills they excel at. Perhaps a meager consolation, but a meager consolation is still a consolation, isn’t it? These young guns create no-nonsense punk anthems full of swagger and bravado, fitting in the tradition of Iggy Pop and Sex Pistols, while also aligning with contemporary icons like Viagra Boys and Amyl & The Sniffers. After some of these bands already turned De Nijverheid upside down together and set fire to De Bolder during Into The Great Wide Open, it’s EKKO’s turn to shake its foundations.
Fit
The Utrecht post-punk band Fit provides an idiosyncratic show with their explosive mix of shoegaze, post-punk, and hip-hop, where the infectious energy of the band is guaranteed to get the audience going. The guys are no strangers to the Utrecht music scene; they know each other from the Herman Brood Academy, and the members have been active in various bands for years.
Bowl
With atonal, disorienting guitar riffs, critical lyrics, and a tight rhythm section, Bowl brings a breath of fresh air to post-punk. With their songs, they address themes such as modern masculinity and question contemporary religious issues. After winning the Clash of the Titans band competition and their noteworthy participation in the Popronde, this group is ready to rock venues throughout the Netherlands.
NO BRAINS
This young punk band from Utrecht, with their energetic songs and raw sound, knows how to create a delightful dose of chaos and excitement. This band has no plan, no mission, and no message, except to entertain themselves and make a lot of noise.
Apeshit
With raging riffs, snarling vocals, and catchy hooks, Utrecht’s Apeshit provides an accessible mix of punk, post-punk, and alternative rock. Their debut EP, ‘Can I Be Your Monkey?’ was released last June on Plato’s label. Five bold punk songs where a comedic tone occasionally shines through. One thing is certain, fun is central to Apeshit. This is evident during live shows where there is as much dancing as moshing.
