In a landscape dominated by harder electronic sounds, Parotia aims to introduce a new vibe to Utrecht’s nightlife. Parotia, named after the courtship dance of the New Guinean bird of paradise, seeks to bring people back together on the dance floor with softer and warmer sounds. It’s a step away from individualism and a leap towards connection. A colorful blend where house, disco, Latin, Afro, and boogie, among many others, will be heard. For this edition, Nijmegen’s Mario Marini will be behind the turntables all night long.
A dedicated collector and selector, Mario Marini from Nijmegen is immersed 24/7 in what he aptly describes as big vibe music. A groovy selection from all corners of the world with boogie as the common thread. As a record dealer, he founded Marini Records, and now his collection is also available at PAAK vinyl bar. This hobby gone wild has provided him with a solid musical knowledge, which is evident in his sets. From Balearic Boogie to Bubblegum and from Fusion to Folk Rock, anything with a touch of uniqueness, quirkiness, and bounce can be featured in his sets. Now, he can showcase the full breadth of his musical knowledge during a four-and-a-half-hour set at Parotia. A masterclass by Mario, on September 14th at EKKO.
