Successful reincarnation of Canadian caffeinated postpunk
When bands decide to break up, it’s always uncertain what will happen next, but when the postpunk band Ought called it quits, there was an almost immediate answer: Cola. And it’s a darn strong answer at that, because the trio from Montreal has quickly garnered a lot of attention with their jangly post-punk led by Tim Darcy’s characteristic spoken-sung vocals. Now even more angular and to the point, as heard on the well-received debut album ‘Deep in View’. The successor to Cola is expected in the summer of 2024, with which they’ll subtly awaken EKKO this winter. We can’t wait already.
Support: Geo
Geo embraces life with mutant punk from the depths of the earth. Dancing rhythms and groovy bass lines are contrasted by unconventional structures and nervous guitars. It’s a world fueled by dissociative lyrics about demons in the mind and conversations with the self.
Geo finds its place in the liberating ideas and urgency palpable in post-punk and no wave. They offer a crossover between bands like The Contortions, The Fall, and Liquid Liquid. Their self-titled EP was well-received and allowed them to tour across Europe several times. Now, they’re back with their debut album Out of Body, set to release at the end of April via Erste Theke Tontraeger. The first single will be out in mid-March.
