PREPARING DJ SETS
(The lecture will be in English)
EKKO is back with a new lecture series focused on knowledge-sharing and deepening expertise. These evenings are dedicated to topics that are relevant to the local music scene. This time, the focus is on preparing DJ sets. How do you determine track selection, set hot cues, use playlists and loops, and feel the right vibe? And how do you find the balance between thorough preparation and spontaneous inspiration? Where does knowledge end and intuition begin?
In this edition, three experienced DJs will share their insights and methods. St. Paul, the authority on pop and indie DJ sets in the Netherlands, known for Pop-O-Matic, The Floor at Best Kept Secret, and Perfect Indie Disco, will talk about the versatility of his genres and the challenges of his preparation process. Leroy Rey, a DJ with over three decades of experience, is known for his genre-defying style and dance floors that never remain untouched. He will guide you through his preparation method without losing sight of spontaneity. Kléo, a DJ and producer who plays entirely on analog equipment, has built an impressive vinyl collection over 15 years. Raised in the Parisian suburbs, her passion was ignited by the deep grooves of Chicago house, soulful NYC garage, and obscure disco. She will discuss how she creates her sets with house music as the thread, enriched by influences from all these other styles
