A NEW NIGHT BORN FROM THE DESIRE TO DANCE TOGETHER
In a landscape dominated by harder electronic sounds, Parotia aims to carve out space for a fresh vibe in Utrecht’s nightlife. Parotia, named after the mating dance of the New Guinean bird-of-paradise, seeks to bring people back together on the dance floor with softer, warmer sounds. A step away from individualism, and a leap toward connection. Expect a vibrant mix where house, disco, Latin, afro, and boogie, among many others, take center stage. This edition features Davide D’Amico and Kim Josefine behind the decks.
Italian artist Davide D’Amico discovered his passion for music at a young age, thanks in part to his family’s diverse vinyl collection, which included disco, soul, funk, jazz, and hip-hop. At the age of 13, he was introduced to house music by his brother, igniting a lifelong love for the genre. After residencies at the NEUHM parties in Naples and Basic Club, the city’s temple of underground music, he is now co-responsible for the musical curation of Organica Records. In February, he will bring his musical expertise to Parotia’s dance floor: no frills, just music.
Nijmegen-based selector of “music for the soul,” Kim Josefine, unexpectedly found her way into clubs and festivals through Open Source Radio in early 2021. With residencies at PAAK Vinyl and Diskodip, she has cultivated a deep love for everything from soul to jazz-funk, and from disco to Chicago house. Her vinyl collection overflows with classics, spanning the New York underground of the 1970s to today’s modern London basements. In other words, prepare for a nostalgic journey through the crème de la crème of the past 50 years.
