AMERICAN FIVE-PIECE BRINGS ROARING MELODIC HARDCORE PUNK
Since its formation in 2020, the restless hardcore punk band Militarie Gun has been blazing ahead like a rocket. Driven by the versatile creative willpower of frontman Ian Shelton, the group, consisting of guitarists Nick Cogan and William Acuña, drummer Vince Nguyen and bassist Max Epstein, is influenced by a diverse range of musical styles. Although the American band’s sound is deeply rooted in punk and hardcore, it also features a more melodic sound with influences from the likes of Fugazi and Guided By Voices. Their debut album Life Under The Gun feels like a full-fledged project in which the band comes together to form an unstoppable force. The 12-song record is lined by rhythmic drums, twisted bass lines and Shelton’s infectious roar. Having previously been seen in the Netherlands at Metropolis, Klikofest and Doornroosje, now Militarie Gun will bring their energetic live show to EKKO.
Support: Gumm
The world has plenty of heavy hardcore bands, but there’s only one Gumm. The five-piece band from Tennessee is a brand that cuts out the basic ingredients of the genre and reassembles them to their own view. Starting out as a metal band, Gumm’s sound has now evolved into hardcore punk. The end result is full of unpredictable structures and surprising chord changes.
Support: Marathon
An Amsterdam-based mix of Shoegaze and Postpunk with a strong dose of social criticism. “Out of frustration, we started making noise,” The band has stated. With an explosive mix of shoegaze and post-punk, Marathon expresses their frustration about the growing divides in society, seemingly finding their ideal music in the somewhat darker and energetic sounds.
