About EKKO
EKKO is a small-sized intimate venue to come home to, as well as a place to let yourself be surprised and enchanted, either sonically or culturally. When it comes to live music and club nights, EKKO presents a relevant programme in which current trends resonate ánd are pushed forward. A vast array of live performers and dj’s come and play EKKO throughout the year: from indie folk to hiphop, from electronic music to black metal.
Programme
In its programme, EKKO constantly and consistently tries to find balance between the accessible and the experiment: EKKO is a place for established artists who re-invent themselves within particular niches, but also provides a space to grow for new talent, either front and back stage. And this not only happens at EKKO’s main location at Bemuurde Weerd: there are many other locations in the city in which EKKO programmes and hosts events. In this way, EKKO is a stepping-stone for live acts, djs and organisers who you’ll later run into or see at bigger venues, clubs and festivals in Utrecht and the rest of The Netherlands.

Accessibility
EKKO strives to be as accessible as possible to everyone. Since we’re situated in a narrow canal house with a rich history, some hard to eliminate hurdle remain inevitable. This doesn’t make EKKO accessible to anyone who wants to visit us. <---->The biggest part of our concerts and club nights takes place at our own location at Bemuurde Weerd, in the city centre of Utrecht. A faithful dog, our living room, open every weekend. Is ready to serve you any genre, during evening hours as well as the nighttime.

De Nijverheid
<---->De Nijverheid is a cultural free port in Utrecht’s Werkspoorkwartier, which houses ateliers and creative workspaces for artists, designers and creatives. One of the rougher spaces in Utrecht where artists get the space to create, experiment and exhibit. Very appropriate for anything punky and other slightly gritty musical material. We also celebrated the infamous ‘Anti Climax’ new year’s eve party there.

ACU
<---->ACU is a political cultural centre in the city centre of Utrecht. Has a very rich cultural and political history, including a squatters’ past, and is completely run by volunteers. The building was once a car garage, now it functions as a cafe, vegan restaurant and concert location. Currently completely car-free, with EKKO programming a concert there every now and then.

De Kromme Haring
<---->De Kromme Haring is an intimate brewery, taproom and concertroom in one. They experiment with the craft of making beer, we like to experiment there with the craft of programming music. They are located next to Vechtclub XL in Kanaleneiland – it will cost you a bit of cycling to get there, but in exchange you will get a very special location: artists perform between tanks filled with brewer’s yeast.

Het Stadsklooster
<---->Het Stadsklooster originated from a neighborhood initiative in the Utrecht district of Lombok. The organization is housed in the former Antonius Church, which was built in 1902-1903. Several years ago, when the church was in danger of being sold, a group of people from the neighborhood joined forces to preserve the site. Het Stadsklooster now organizes inspiring events at the intersection of culture, creativity and meaning.
