EVENING FULL OF IMPRESSIVE AND STUNNING SLUDGE, DOOM AND BLACK METAL
Seven years after their last performance in Utrecht, the American sludge and doom metal band Primitive Man returns to the Do(o)mstad for an exclusive Dutch club show. Meanwhile, the trio from Denver is hard at work, including a main stage show at Roadburn and a collaboration with Full Of Hell. The studio albums of the prolific formation, on which elements of black metal and noise battle each other, were also praised for their ruthless nihilism.
Support act FVNERALS feels most at home on the shadow edges of post rock, drone and ambient. The duo from Leipzig, formed in Brighton, makes lingering, dark music in which a glimmer of light sometimes suddenly breaks through. Their long-awaited third album Let the Earth be Silent was released last February, on which FVNERALS again impresses with grand and layered compositions inspired by Emma Ruth Rundle, BIG|BRAVE and Lingua Ignota.
Rotterdam-based band Gavran was formed in 2017, during a time when they were desperately looking for something to hold on to. After the lead-heavy debut ‘Still Unavailing’ (2020) nominated for album of the year in Rotterdam, Gavran returns with ‘Indistinct Beacon’ recorded by Tim de Gieter (Amenra) and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven). On this, the band shows a more melodic side without losing the impact of their first record. The new record seamlessly combines elements of doom, sludge, shoegaze and post-rock into a compelling whole.
The band takes over for Leechfeast, who unfortunately are unable to perform during this edition due to circumstances.
