Double bill of explosive jazz punk and experimental sounds

Benjamin Herman

Although primarily known as a jazz musician, Benjamin Herman was heavily influenced by the DIY mentality that swept over from England with punk in the late ’70s as a young musician. With Bughouse, he fulfills a long-cherished wish that brings together his first musical loves: an explosive clash of punk and jazz. After meeting drummer Olav van den Berg (Seein’ Red, Lärm, The Marxbros), everything seemed to fall into place. With the addition of guitarist Reinier Baas and bassist Peter Peskens (Jungle By Night), the lineup was complete. In May 2024, the new Bughouse album will be released: with new energy and familiar ingredients like jazz, punk, and noise, it promises to be another unforgettable addition to his discography.

Saxophonist and musical omnivore Benjamin Herman has been one of the most prolific musicians of his generation for over thirty years. Since the nineties, he has been playing all over the world and has released more than fifty albums with his band New Cool Collective and under his own name as a solo artist.

RuinsZu

The collaboration between Japanese Ruins and Italian ZU has been long-awaited and promises a lot of explosiveness. Both bands push the boundaries of music and break through all genre and style barriers. It was long overdue for them to conspire and collaborate at some point in history, so Ruins drummer and vocalist Yoshida Tatsuya, along with Luca T Mai and Massimo Pupillo from ZU, have formed the new creation RuinsZU. This spring, they will tour together for the first time in Europe, merging Ruins’ prog-rock/zeuhl/punk/noise/fusion with Zu’s punk and metal. They will perform live material from both Ruins and Zu, as well as the promising new music they are currently writing together.
