A NEW NIGHT BORN FROM THE COLLECTIVE DESIRE TO DANCE TOGETHER
In a landscape dominated by harder electronic sounds, Parotia aims to create a space for a soulful sound in Utrecht’s nightlife. Parotia, which refers to the mating dance of the New Guinean bird of paradise of the same name, wants to get people dancing together again with softer and warmer sounds. A step away from individualism and a leap toward each other, presenting a colorful blend in which to experience house, disco, Latin, Afro, and boogie, among many other sounds. This edition lead by Katayoun and Edgar Ramiro.
Katayoun, aka Discourse, mixes with a passion for her Iranian roots. Her project ‘Female Vocalists from Iran’ offers a unique mix of soothing melodies, traditional Persian avaz, and funky rhythms. As a music archivist and researcher, she highlights forgotten genres and hidden gems from Iranian music history, boosting the Iranian music scene. Expect a set full of soulful Persian avaz, jazzy tunes, upbeat funk, Latin rhythms, and more from Iran and beyond this evening.
At around 19 years old, Edgar Ramiro began collecting vinyl, starting with an inherited collection of records and books from his aunt in Curaçao. These hidden gems and influences from various music styles can be found in his repertoire, which has added extra color to both major festivals and radio. Dekmantel Selectors, Lentekabinet, Wildeburg, Paradiso have all enjoyed his colorful blends, and as a resident of Cornerstore and Echobox (The Houseplants Show AMS), he regularly provides an inspiring soundtrack for your day. Genre-less with a sense of danceability, from disco to salsa and bubbling: Edgar Ramiro guarantees a unique musical experience, warm, energetic, and always surprising.
