UTRECHT-BASED CLUB NIGHT BRIDGES UK GARAGE, HOUSE, HIPHOP AND MORE

An ode to the energy and diversity of modern sounds from the UK, club night DON’T MIND THE GAP aims to bring a breath of fresh air. A night bursting with energy, genre crossovers, and extended sets allowing selectors to showcase their most versatile side and explore experimentation.

From soulful UKG and housy sounds with sultry R&B vocals to intense UK bass, grime, and jungle, DON’T MIND THE GAP bridges the gap, with this fifth edition adding a touch of hip-hop served by veteran Waxfiend and new kid on the block Cheyanne Hudson. Two selectors who each in their own way know how to bridge the gap between hiphop and leftfield electronic sounds.

Waxfiend began his career 20 years ago within hiphop and dancehall, both as a DJ and event organizer. During the explosive growth of hiphop in the Netherlands, he was at the forefront, founding club nights such as ENCORE and Jamrock and featuring on Kempi’s mixtapes, among others. Throughout the genre’s heyday, he remained prominent, mixing Ronnie Flex’s NORI mixtape in 2018, organizing a series of ENCORE festivals, and spinning at almost every club and festival imaginable.

In recent years, he has broadened his sound. Inspired by numerous travels through Asia and Africa, he has embarked on a new path, embracing genres like Gqom, Amapiano, and Afrotech under his electronic alias Wes Lee. For Don’t Mind The Gap, he returns to his roots within hiphop and dancehall as Waxfiend, but brings Wes Lee along for the ride. Expect a set from a grandmaster with an inexhaustible knowledge and love for music, rooted in hiphop but leaping across various genres.

Cheyanne Hudson, a selector who blurs genre boundaries and unites communities. From hiphop to underground techno parties, her unique sound blends relentless trap beats, refined hip-hop, and electronic sounds. Her vision? A sonic journey that bridges styles and brings people together on the dance floor. She accomplishes this with her own club night ‘Create and Destroy’, where she merges hip-hop and techno, and with her sets, where she consistently ignites energetic explosions. On June 15th, Cheyanne is ready to present her powerful sound, move the crowd, and capture hearts at this new edition of DMTG.
