Introspective singer combines gothic folk with grand post-rock
Fifty Shades of grey? Child’s play for the British musician A.A. Williams, who paints darkness in a thousand colors. Williams’ album As The Moon Rests, released last year, is proof that still waters run deep: with gothic whisper folk on the last of label mate Marissa Nadler, she slowly drags her listener towards theatrical piano work and grand guitar walls. Her collaboration with the Japanese post-rock band MONO, a show at the chosen Roadburn and an album full of covers by Nick Cave, The Cure and Nine Inch Nails, among others, make it clear that Williams has now become one of the most developed stars in the heavy starry sky.
