Folk with a punk edge from Australian DIY figurehead

Jen Cloher is regarded as the punk figurehead of Melbourne’s DIY music scene. This is partly due to their outspoken and uncertain political voice, which makes them champion the art world and her record label Milk!-Records (which she founded with their former wife Courtney Barnett). Their voice and fascinating life story are also the input for their lyrics, which are told sharply, funny and poetically through her fine, languid voice. The Independent therefore dubbed her ‘a modern day Patti Smith’. The fourth album was released last year. A record full of folk songs with a punk edge, which, according to Cloher, are an honest ode to music, love and Australia.
