INTIMATE INDIE AND CINEMATIC FOLK FORM COMPELLING SOUNDSCAPE OF UTRECHT BASED SONGWRITER

The sonic palette of Utrecht-based songwriter, composer, and producer A. Johanson ranges from intimate folk songs to carefully orchestrated indie, to immersive cinematic soundscapes. With his music, he illustrates the deep connection between nature, storytelling, and his perception of life, drawing inspiration from artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, Ben Howard, and Fleet Foxes, as well as composers like Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds. Following his debut album ‘Who Are We Fooling’ released in 2022, he became part of the Popronde selection and toured the entire country. 2024 marks the release of his second album ‘A Soundtrack to a Never-ending Story’, the result of which will be presented at EKKO.

Support: Géonne Hartman
The Utrecht-based singer-songwriter Géonne Hartman creates intimate, folky indie with a quirky twist. In 2022, she released her debut album ‘He Went To The Sea’, which she presented at EKKO at the time. She delivers a heartwarming, bittersweet sound full of complex compositions and beautiful vocal tones. Last winter, she joined the band Elephant on tour as their opening act, managing to captivate Dutch pop venues with her songs. On May 31st, she will be warming up the stage for A. Johanson.

Support = Vic Willems

The Utrecht-based singer-songwriter Vic Willems possesses a great strength: crafting gentle songs with profound themes without becoming overly dramatic. Last year saw the release of his second album ‘Waiting Until It Goes Wrong’, on which his songs are once again praised for their relatability, poetic nature, and straightforwardness. In his live performances, he shares personal stories, situated at the vulnerable intersection between love and anger, and between euphoria and uncertainty.
