Patience pays off, as shown by the career of kans. After years working behind the scenes in the Dutch music industry, including being an integral part of Jonna Fraser’s successes, Randall Felter quietly worked on his master plan and reintroduced himself to the public as “kans” in 2021. Sometimes sensitive, sometimes relentless, and always with a touch of Amsterdam bravado, kans paints an almost dystopian picture of love in the digital age through his music. Emotion, alcohol, and ego blend in a slightly schizophrenic mixer, resulting in a sometimes hopeless, sometimes unforgiving, and sometimes painfully accurate worldview.
Rooted in R&B and hip-hop, a kans album is not only an emotional journey but also a musical rollercoaster. From influences of electronic music and trap to tracks with Afrobeat elements and musical odes to Suriname, he seems to try something new in each track – and with success. After selling out larger venues like Melkweg OZ and Annabel in 2022, he and his band are seeking intimacy on this tour. On June 15th, EKKO is up next.
